Postdoctoral position to work on larval biology or environmental proteomics or biomineralization

A postdoctoral position is available to study larval metamorphic response to ocean acidification under high temperature (global warming) and low-salinity (high precipitation) conditions at proteomics and biomineralization levels in two of the most important marine invertebrates, oysters and tubeworms.

Requirements: We are seeking talented, enthusiastic, creative and extremely hardworking young researchers with a strong commitment and dedication to interdisciplinary and collaborative research.

Qualifications: The candidate should have a Ph.D degree in zoology or biochemistry or marine science or molecular biology or related subjects. Research experience in marine biology or environmental proteomics or larval biology or biomineralization is essential. Most importantly, the applicant should have proven track record, e.g. publications and excellent reference letter from their thesis or research supervisor(s).

Salary: Depends on the candidate’s qualification and is determined by the University. It ranges from HK$ 18000 to 25000 per month (1 US$ = 7.8 HK$). For this salary range, the income tax is negligible in Hong Kong.

For further information about HKU please visit http://www.hku.hk. The HKU is ranking at 26 among the top 200 universities in the world (and No 2 in Asia). Our environmental proteomics, ocean acidification, and larval biology laboratories are member of the Swire Institute of Marine Science (SWIMS) (http://www.hku.hk/swims/) and School of Biological Sciences (http://www.hku.hk/biosch/). The SIWMS is a unique research facility situated within Hong Kong’s only Marine Reserve. As such postdoctoral fellows will be exposed to a diverse, vibrant and interdisciplinary research environment (marine molecular ecology) and will be working on hot-science topics such as ocean acidification and environmental proteomics. Recently, we have also got a grant to support a post doc for 3 years to specifically work on a project titled as “a multidisciplinary approach to crystal matrix protein analysis in marine organisms”.

Please send CV, a statement outlining your interests, career objectives and experience (with evidence, e.g. PUBLICATIONS) with names and contact information for three references familiar with your research work to Dr. V Thiyagarajan (rajan@hkucc.hku.hk). Further details about our laboratory interests and research facilities can be obtained from http://www.hku.hk/biosch/staff/rajan/rajan.htm.
